Title: Onion Buns

Dough:
¾ cup milk
¼ cup sugar
2 tsp salt
¼ cup shortening
½ cup lukewarm water
2 tsps sugar
2 pkgs yeast
2 eggs, beaten
4 cups sifted flour
Filling:
1 cup coarsely chopped onion
¼ cup butter
Topping:
1 egg yolk
2 tsps cold water
poppy seeds
Scald milk, add ¼ cup sugar, salt, and shortening. Cool to lukewarm. Soak yeast in lukewarm water and sugar for 10 minutes. Stir in lukewarm milk mixture, eggs, and 2 cups flour. Beat till smooth. Add remaining flour. Knead to make a smooth dough. Cover and let rise till doubled.
While dough is rising cook onion in butter and set aside to cool. Punch dough down, roll into a 12"x18" square. Spread half of dough lengthwise with onion. Fold over and cut into 18-1" strips. Twist several times into a corkscrew shape. Place one end on cookie sheet and wind rest of strip around. Tuck ends under. Let rise till doubled . Brush with topping and sprinkle with poppy seeds. Bake in 400° oven for 15 minutes.
