Title: Sugar Cookies

1 cup shortening (or butter)
½ cup sugar
½ cup brown sugar
1 egg
3 T milk
1 ½ tsp vanilla
3 cups sifted flour
½ tsp salt
½ tsp soda
Cream shortening or butter, sugar, brown sugar, and egg together very thoroughly. Stir in milk and vanilla. Sift flour, salt and soda together, add to butter mixture and blend well. Chill dough several hours. Roll dough to 1/8" thick and bake in 375° oven for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned around edges. These can be stuck together with jam, or date filling, or eaten as is.
