1 cup grated raw carrot
1 cup grated raw potato
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
¾ cup raisins
½ cup currants
½ cup butter or shortening (or ¾ cup finely ground suet)
½ tsp cloves
½ tsp nutmeg
½ tsp cinnamon
1 tsp soda
Optional ingredients : slivered almonds, peel, and brandy
Grate carrot and potato and set aside. Cream the butter and sugar. Add carrot and one-half the potato and blend well. Sift together flour with spices, then sprinkle over raisins and currants with flour and stir well. Add to butter, carrot mixture. Dissolve the soda in the ½ cup grated potato and add at the last. Mix lightly. Pour into buttered pudding mold or bowl and steam for 3 hours.
